John Smith
Chair
John was born in South East London halfway through the last century. As a young boy, he moved to North East Scotland, which he considers his educational and formative roots. His academic path led him to Aberdeen University, where he graduated with a degree in physics in 1972.
Â
For the next 40 years, John immersed himself in the world of semiconductor technology. Starting as a white-coated research scientist, John steadily climbed the ranks, eventually stepping into operational management.
Â
John has lived in Burwell for nearly 30 years, though frequent work-related travel limited his opportunities to engage in community activities. However, as retirement approached, he volunteered at Burwell Print Centre. Moved by the incredible impact the organisation had on so many people, he joined the team as a Trustee in 2012. Initially serving as Treasurer, John took on the role of Chair in 2018, a position he holds with great pride as he continues to champion the Centre’s mission.
Â
Outside of the Centre, John enjoys cycling and is an avid football fan, with an almost fanatical support for the ‘Gunners’.
