Simon Gibson

Treasurer

Simon has worked in financial services for most of his life. Primarily based in Newmarket, his career has taken him across the UK and beyond.

He is a founding Trustee of a small local charity, served as a school governor for eight years, and is a Champion for Alzheimer’s Research UK, based just outside Cambridge.

Simon is often reminded that to be considered a true Burwellian, one must have lived in the village for millennia. However, he only moved to Burwell in 1997, despite having known the village all his life.

His mother came from Burwell, and Simon spent many happy days there with his grandparents as a child. Born in nearby Newmarket, Simon’s family home now reverberates with music spanning seven decades, much of it from second-hand vinyl records. His latest passion is collecting old reggae records, and his 17-year-old son enjoys such a wide variety of music that it’s easier to list what he doesn’t like. Simon is also a proud father of two older daughters, both of whom are making their own way in life.

With a personal connection to autism, Simon loves helping young people learn the value of money. He is also a public speaker, a bit of a stand-up comedian, and a published author. While Simon loves most sports, mostly as a spectator, he still enjoys playing cricket.
